Begin your vacation in Athens, a city that’s equally ancient and modern. Once you’ve settled into your accommodation, dig into a gyro and wander the streets of charming Plaka. Go back in time and spend your days as an archaeology expert at the Acropolis, the Parthenon, and the Temple of Olympian Zeus.

After a few days of ancient Greek exploration, embark on a ferry to Mykonos! Delight in its authentic seaside charms, splashy cafe-bar-boutique scene, and traditional whitewashed architecture. In Mýkonos Town, visit the Archaeological Museum’s ancient pottery collection for a taste of history, or take the dip on the island’s sheltered south coast.

But wait, there’s more! Hop aboard the ferry to the dazzling island of Santorini. Spend your days relaxing at the Perivólas and Vlyháda beaches in the far south of the island or for the more adventure-inclined, take a hike! Gyros, pronounced “yee-ros” in Greece, are savory bundles of joy wrapped up in fresh pita. This Greek staple is an all-time favorite, and no trip to Athens would be complete without trying one. Stuffed with fillings like pork, chicken, lamb, veggies, and – let us never forget – the ever-delicious tzatziki, gyros are pronounced like “heroes” for a reaosn. Here are our favorite spots to snag an authentic gyro in Athens.

Mykonos

A vibrant playground of Greek tradition

On the magical island of Mykonos, it’s always party time! Follow winding stone paths through whitewashed houses, relax on beautiful beaches, then get ready for Greece’s most raved-about nightlife. When the sun sets, the streets of Mykonos light up.

Santorini

Nothing like a Santorini sunset.

Frolic through the quaint, colorful shops that line the winding stone paths of this oh so romantic island. Gaze out at the bright blue Aegean Sea, then sip on a glass of local wine and watch a world-famous sunset. Many people claim Santorini is the “most Greek” island; now it’s your turn to discover why.
